Marketing is an art. It’s not just about who has the best features or the cheapest price. It’s about understanding your audience and knowing how to speak to them in a way that generates interest. When it comes to marketing, creativity is key. Whether you’re creating ads, coming up with slogans, or trying to figure out what your business stands for; creativity is one of the most important tools at your disposal. Here are some strategies for boosting creativity in marketing:
Why creativity is so important
According to the Great Guest Posts Cities Institute, individuals who have high levels of creativity score highly on measures of cognitive, social and emotional functioning.
An increase in creativity and innovation not only helps people improve their workplace performance, but can also enhance a city’s business prospects, as well as its cultural vitality. Creativity is such an important trait for an entrepreneur, but it’s also important for the everyday man. As an entrepreneur, you may not have the resources to hire someone with great creative writing or graphic design skills, but you should still invest time in cultivating your own creativity.
How to boost creativity
Creativity is something that comes naturally to some people and not so much to others.
How to use your creativity in marketing
One of the best ways to increase creativity in marketing is to start paying more attention to your audience. This might be as simple as playing music from your social media streams. It might be as complex as figuring out what users’ feelings about your services or brand are based on their actions. Sometimes, it takes some heavy digging and experimentation.
You also can add creativity to your marketing in other ways. One of my favorite tools for increasing creativity is to use a brainstorming tool like Busuu. Busuu is a platform where you can chat with people from around the world. The platform, along with its partners like Quora, is a great tool for finding ideas and building networks that can help you meet others in the creative industry.
Come up with creative ideas
If you’re bored, it’s a good sign that you’re not paying enough attention to your product and/or your customers. Come up with your own ideas. The majority of businesses out there are run by people, so it’s not unusual for them to come up with novel ways to reach customers. See if you can improve on these ideas. Most businesses don’t spend a lot of money on creating unique marketing strategies, so you have more leeway here than you think.
Increase the sense of mystery
If you’re not doing something, there are many people who’d like to know why. It doesn’t have to be something major. Perhaps you’re sending out emails or conducting Facebook ads, but you’re not talking about the new restaurant opening in the neighbourhood or your hot new range of skincare products.
Be flexible with your work
To be creative, you need to be flexible in your thinking. Every new concept can be made into a new piece of artwork if you just take the time to let it flow and allow it to take shape on its own. This may sound weird and maybe even hard to do, but it’s actually a common theme in most of the art movements of the 20th century. Many artists found their inspiration through things that were not easily recognized or talked about. This is why you might find artwork that does not seem to make much sense or sense that is obviously not in line with current trends. You can also create innovative ads that are ahead of their time.
Meet people where they are
People are busy. They’re constantly connected. They’re experiencing all kinds of different environments and cultures, all over the world.
Replace the negative mindset with a positive one
A key element of creativity is the ability to be open-minded and see the world from a different point of view. It is this ability that can take you out of the box and into your target audience’s shoes. Instead of thinking “we’re different and we’re better,” why not use this opportunity to show your audience that you are just like them, and how. Consider what your audience wants and figure out how you can benefit from this so you can attract their attention. Keep in mind that making your audience feel as though you understand them and what they need is one of the best ways to develop trust.
Push boundaries and break out of your comfort zone
Not everyone thinks the same way. Some people like to get out and go to new places, while others may prefer staying home.
Have a brainstorming session
One of the biggest fears of almost every marketing professional is trying to come up with something a good idea. It’s hard enough as it is; trying to come up with something truly creative is downright terrifying. To help with this fear, many marketers choose to create a room where they can have a group discussion. The key here is to encourage plenty of rambling, speculation, and random, unconnected ideas. Do not stick to any kind of script; create a space where there is no particular direction.
Why would you do this? To stimulate your imagination and help you come up with some innovative ideas. Give people some time to bounce ideas off one another and come up with a few great ideas for you.
Create a list of what you know for sure
Write down all of the keywords and phrases that have some significance to your industry. Then, put those words in alphabetical order.
Once you’ve done this, every time you see something that fits the mold of the list, add it to a note and jot down what it means. For example, if you know all of the words that relate to real estate, add those to the list and try to incorporate one or two of those words in your future posts.
3. The Pencil Method
The Pencil Method is a useful way to brainstorm a product or idea. It works like this:
Take a pencil and a piece of paper. Write something you like (here’s a list of creative ideas)
Now draw a line between two places (you don’t have to know where these two places are; that’s what’s the creative part).
When it comes to marketing, the future of your business depends on it. There are many different strategies out there, and if you’re going to be successful, you have to be willing to embrace all of them. The bottom line is that marketing has been going through a fundamental shift, and businesses will need to be ready to react. If you think you’ve got what it takes, don’t think twice about taking action.
